چکیده

Abstract Thermoplastics combine high freedom of design with economical mass production. Metallic coatings on thermoplastics enable power and signal transmission, shield sensitive parts inside housings can reduce the temperature in critical areas by functioning as a heat sink. The most used technical are polyamides (PA), while described use cases often realized using Cu. Consequently, several studies tried to apply copper PA substrates via thermal spraying; so far, this combination is only feasible an interlayer. In study, new approach metallize spraying based validated state-of-the-art predictions thermoplastics’ material response at relevant temperatures strain rates presented. Using these predictions, velocity wire-arc was selected coating process. Furthermore, process parameters were adapted realize continuous also roughening substrate during deposition. resulting Cu PA6 had sufficiently adhesion for post-treatment grinding. achieved situ application. results indicate that different initial layer deposition further buildup required due low stability PA6.

Thermal Spray Coatings

THERMAL SPRAY is a generic term for a group of processes in which metallic, ceramic, cermet, and some polymeric materials in the form of powder, wire, or rod are fed to a torch or gun with which they are heated to near or somewhat above their melting point. The resulting molten or nearly molten droplets of material are accelerated in a gas stream and projected against the surface to be coated (...

Cryogenic Nitrogen Gas Cooling for Thermal Spray Coatings

Current Process HVOF thermal spray is widely used for coating critical wear parts like landing gear, bearing races, valves and turbine components. Generally, fully or partially molten metal, composite, or ceramic droplets are propelled from a gun or torch onto the workpiece. Multiple passes are required to build up the coating, since each pass only deposits ~ 0.0002 in 0.0005 in thickness of ma...

Microstructure, deformation and cracking characteristics of thermal spray ferrous coatings

The microstructure and local mechanical characteristics of thermal spray ferrous coatings have been determined. The emphasis has been on coatings made by the high velocity oxyfuel (HVOF) process, especially the role of Al alloy additives. The oxide phase present in the material and preferred pathways for local cracking and separation have been determined. Thin intersplat oxide layers emerge as ...

Designing Energy Dissipation Properties via Thermal Spray Coatings

The coefficient of restitution is a measure of energy dissipation in a system across impact events. Often, the dissipative qualities of a pair of impacting components are neglected during the design phase. This research looks at the effect of applying a thin layer of metallic coating, using thermal spray technologies, to significantly alter the dissipative properties of a system. The dissipativ...
